Align with the Heart’s Desire
Navigate with honesty under the Scorpio new moon
As if Scorpio’s intensity and tendency to highlight truths wasn’t enough, November’s new moon shows up at a particularly energetically charged moment. Not only will the moon align with the sun in Scorpio, but they will be joined by both Mercury and Lillith. That’s a lot of going on in the sign of death and rebirth and Moonshine Yoga is here to help you navigate the depths of this water sign and find clarity in what cycles are ready to shift so we can grow.
Full disclosure, while I’m not an astrology expert, I am a Scorpio, so this energy is very familiar to me. This is a sign of intuition and sometimes intuition can feel like you’re jumping ahead to the answer without understanding all of the math, but the answer is clear whether you can prove it on paper or not. While it may be hard to explain, the messaging we receive during this new moon window can help us clearly articulate what we want to bless and move forward with.
The new moon is already a time of introspection and setting new intentions, and a new moon positioned in Scorpio asks us to communicate with our past and future selves as we shift old patterns to find our way forward. If we want to support this work rather than fight it, certain energy centers will be working overtime - the sacral chakra to name our desire, the heart chakra to connect our desire to the heart and to love, the throat chakra to communicate our heart’s desire, and the third eye chakra so we can envision the future and recognize the energetic opportunities and choices when they are in front of us and it’s time to take action.
Below are some tips on charging and caring for these chakras and an asana flow that will activate all four.
Supporting Chakras
Svadhisthana (Sacral Chakra) translates to ‘one’s own base.’ It is located in the lower abdomen and the basic right connected to this energy point is to feel and have pleasure. When it is in balance this chakra helps us to express ourselves creatively and sexually and to experience pleasure in healthy ways.
Try some of the following options to connect with and recharge the sacral chakra:
The color associated with this chakra is orange. Activate the sacral chakra with a visualization practice - simply visualize a warm and vibrant orange light emanating from the lower abdomen to clear blockages and restore balance.
Meditate on one or more of the following keywords and observe the feedback from your internal landscape: change, pleasure, movement, flow, emotions, sexuality, desire, nurture. Internal guidance isn’t as loud as the external world so listen quietly and consider pairing meditation with one of the following stones to amplify that inner voice.
Orange calcite is useful for connecting to your creativity and carnelian helps to connect you to your inner passion and the present. Both stones can help answer the question: What do I want to move forward with?
The bija mantra or ‘seed sound’ that activates the sacral chakra is VAM. Repeating this sound or listening to a VAM chant activates and restores a balanced moving current of energy. If you prefer to work with inspirational mantras some options for this chakra include:
I express my creativity freely.
My desires are meant-to-be and fully supported by Source Energy.
Anahata (Heart Chakra) translates to ‘unstuck.’ It is located in the center of the chest and the basic right connected to this energy point is to love and be loved. When it is in balance this chakra can restore some of the energy it takes to pursue our desires and to identify those that are aligned with the heart.
Try some of the following options to connect with and recharge the heart chakra:
The color connected to the heart center is green. Add the heart chakra to the color visualization above to foster an energy conduit between the two chakras, allowing the heart to have a say in the desires you pursue.
The keywords associated with this chakra include: love, relationships, devotion, self-love, joy, forgiveness, healing, balance, gratitude. Listen for feedback on adjustments needed to balance the pursuit of our intentions with compassion and empathy.
Stones that support the heart chakra include rose quartz to encourage unconditional love and self-compassion and jade to attract positive energy. Use these stones as you meditate on the questions: What seeds does my heart want to plant? What patterns do I want to break? How does it feel in the body to think about those intentions? Allow long held expectations and barriers to reveal themselves so you can acknowledge and release them.
The bija mantra for the heart center is YAM. Chanting or listening to a YAM chant can help us combine desire and love. Inspirational mantras to support the heart center include:
I am in touch with my feelings and emotions.
I release fear and allow love to guide my actions.
Vishuddha (Throat Chakra) translates to ‘very pure.’ It is located in the center of the neck and the basic right connected to this energy point is to speak and be heard. When it is balanced and charged, we are able to speak honestly from the heart, listen to others and accept things as they are. Caring for this chakra allows us to clearly communicate our heart’s desire.
Try some of the following options to connect with and recharge the throat chakra:
The color connected to the throat chakra is blue. It can be any color blue that you connect to an empowered voice. Pair your visualization exercise with supported fish pose or matsyasena at the close of your asana practice to magnify its effect.
The keywords associated with this chakra include: creativity, expression, listening, sound, vibration, communication. Contemplate these keywords as you meditate and listen for guidance.
Meditate with blue stones, like lapis lazuli, aquamarine and chalcedony, to amplify the guidance and release hesitation. Consider necklaces made of these stones as they not only rest against the skin, but near the vishuddha energy point as you consider the questions: Where am I holding back? What have I been putting off? What desires have I been ignoring? You might want to keep a pen and paper handy because this chakra tends to have a lot to say.
The bija mantra for the root chakra is HAM. Chanting or listening to a HAM chant can help recharge and activate vishuddha, acting like a vibrational clearing of the throat. If you prefer inspirational mantras, consider the following options:
I communicate with clarity and confidence.
I express my creativity and manifest my dreams.
Ajna (Third Eye Chakra) translates to ‘to perceive.’ It is located between the eyebrows and the basic right connected to this energy point is to see. This energy point helps us to envision the manifestation of our heart’s desire and recognize the energetic opportunities to communicate and act.
Try some of the following options to connect with and recharge the ajna chakra:
The color associated with this chakra is indigo. Visualize a vibrant indigo light glowing in the space between your eyes, expanding out into the space around you and contracting into the body. Let it fill your head and expand until it fills the entire space around you and the body.
Meditate on one or more of the following keywords and observe the feedback from your internal landscape: intuition, imagination, visualization, insight, dreams, clarity, wisdom. Rather than guide with specific questions, get as quiet as you can, consider lying down and covering the body with a heavy blanket, using an eye pillow to shut out as much outside ‘noise’ as possible. Simply listen, what does your third eye have to tell you?
Consider a multi-colored fluorite stone–one with bands of green, blue and purple–to connect this chakra to the heart and the throat chakras. Each hue has its own benefits–green absorbs negative energy and opens the heart to possibilities, blue promotes clear and honest communication and purple supercharges our intuition.
The bija mantra or ‘seed sound’ that activates the sacral chakra is OM. Pronounced in three sounds, ‘aaa-uuu-mmm’ OM is a sonic representation of the divine. If you prefer to work with inspirational mantras some options for this chakra include:
I can manifest my desires.
I am open to receiving insights from my higher-self.

It’s a short flow so consider moving through it three times and resting at the end in supported matsyasana/fish pose as a preparation for meditation. Give yourself a few days surrounding the new moon to work through the chakras individually or in pairs (the energy extends three days on either side of the new moon).

Play the Long Game
This particular energetic alignment with the sun, new moon, Mercury and Lillith in Scorpio is only a few days long, but it is part of a longer, more subtle years-long cycle encouraging us to question what is working, what is not working and what needs to change for us to flourish. It’s a long game we’re playing and we don’t always get the big ‘a-ha’ moment. Sometimes the gong rings and the next step is obvious, but more often the energetic opportunities are subtly held in each moment, there to help us feel our way forward, to become magnets and draw that new growth to us. Listen closely, your divine path may not be the loudest, but it is calling you home.
